Albany duo Little Rascalz pens winning anthem for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials – Track & Field

EUGENE, Ore. – (Jan. 19, 2012) –– Eugene radio stations 104.7 KDUK and 101.5 KFLY announced today the winner of the Official Power Anthem contest for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field taking place at Historic Hayward Field June 21 – July 1. Listeners selected “Run this Town” by Albany duo Little Rascalz.

In November the contest was launched in partnership with Eugene radio stations 104.7 KDUK and 101.5 KFLY to select the official power anthem of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field. Contestants were asked to perform original lyrics capturing the spirit of TrackTown USA. Entries could include a video to accompany the power anthem.

In early January, Little Rascalz was selected as one of four finalists, including Eugene artists Matt Barnhart and The Cat Like Reflexes and Rob Tobias and The Northwest Express. Fans voted online through Jan. 18.

Comprised of lifelong friends Trey Kenyon, 19, and Michael Shogren, 20, Little Rascalz’s power anthem “Run this Town showcases their unique brand of electronic infused pop music. Shogren, a former cross-country runner for Western Oregon University and a huge fan of track and field, found the opportunity to write and perform a song about track and field “just kind of perfect.”

Shogren primarily wrote the lyrics, and Kenyon contributed to music composition and production for “Run this Town,” a catchy, upbeat anthem that captures the soul of TrackTown.

"We are thrilled that our song "Run This Town" was chosen to be the TrackTown12 Power Anthem. As two enthusiastic track and field fans, we couldn't be more excited to be a part of the Olympic Trials,” said Kenyon. “Thank you to all of our fans for the support and best of luck to the athletes in their preparation."

Little Rascalz will be awarded two all-session tickets to the eight-day trials in Eugene and invitations to perform the official anthem at TrackTown12 events. The duo will perform “Run this Town” live, for the first time, at TrackTown Tuesday at The Old Pad Jan. 31, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is open to the public and also features Coach Vin Lananna talking with Olympic-caliber athletes.

"We are thrilled with the response about the contest and the trials.  All of the entries were really good, but the Little Rascalz did an outstanding job with their song,” said TrackTown12 co-chair Greg Erwin.

Formed in May 2010, Little Rascalz is currently working to complete the group’s second album and looks to continued success in 2012 and a growing Oregon and national fan base.

Tickets Remain for Trials
