TrackTown USA and The Prefontaine Classic to partner with local non-profit Endless Mileage Project

TrackTown USA and The Prefontaine Classic to partner with local non-profit Endless Mileage Project

EUGENE, Ore. – TrackTown USA and The Prefontaine Classic have pledged ongoing support of local Olympian Benjamin Blankenship’s new non-profit organization, Endless Mileage Project, through financial contributions to The Fast Forest and facilitation of gear collection at events for Recovered Running.

The Fast Forest acts as a visible recognition of accomplishing one of the most storied feats in track & field: Breaking the 4-minute and 4:30 barriers in the mile. A tree has been planted for every historic barrier-breaker, and trees will continue to be allocated as future generations accomplish the feat. With the support of Willamalane Park and Recreation District, the orchards of the Fast Forest live within Dorris Ranch (205 Dorris Street, Springfield, OR 97477). Dorris Ranch is a natural historic preservation site, living history farm, a working commercial filbert orchard, and a public park with a rich history in the Oregon running community.

TrackTown USA and The Prefontaine Classic have made an initial cash contribution of $5,000 to cover the cost of the trees already planted for the 49 barrier-breaking performances already earned at Hayward Field. Additionally, TrackTown USA and The Prefontaine Classic pledge $100 for each new tree planted for a future barrier-breaking performance earned at Hayward Field.

“I am thrilled that TrackTown USA and The Prefontaine Classic are helping support Ben Blankenship’s inspiring vision and the fantastic, local non-profit he has created,” said TrackTown USA CEO Michael Reilly. “Hayward Field is known for historic performances, and being able to commemorate the sub-4 and 4:30 miles achieved there in this fashion only adds to its legacy. Additionally, TrackTown USA is committed to fostering opportunities for the next generation of athletes to pursue the sport we love. Recovered Running is aligned with that goal, lowering the barrier of entry to participate in track and field by providing local groups in need with necessary gear. Having donation bins at our events will strengthen that initiative.”

Recovered Running accepts new and gently used track & field apparel and equipment, and donates those items to local schools and running communities in need. Since 2020, Blankenship’s personal efforts on this front resulted in over 1,000 pieces of clothing and gear donated to high schools in both Oregon and his home state of Minnesota.

As part of the ongoing commitment, TrackTown USA and The Prefontaine Classic will have Recovered Running donation sites at multiple events during the outdoor track & field season, and will encourage spectators and athletes to bring items to donate. TrackTown USA and Endless Mileage Project will announce which events will include Recovered Running donation sites via their respective social media channels ahead of each event.

“The mission of the Endless Mileage Project is to blend sustainable programs into athletics,” said Endless Mileage Project founder Benjamin Blankenship. “The opportunity to partner with TrackTown USA allows us to mutually enhance each other’s messages within the track and field community. We can’t wait to work together and create exciting and meaningful sustainable projects within our sport.”

Black Women Photographers and TrackTown USA Partner to Hire Black Women for The Prefontaine Classic and USATF Outdoor Championships

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 19, 2022

Black Women Photographers and TrackTown USA Partner to Hire Black Women for The Prefontaine Classic and USATF Outdoor Championships

Photographers May Submit Content for Consideration to Officially Document Events Hosted by TrackTown USA in 2022

(Eugene, OR) Today TrackTown USA, the local organizing committee for the Prefontaine Classic and 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships, announced it has partnered with Polly Irungu’s Black Women Photographers organization.

Together they are working to create opportunities for up-and-coming Black women photographers to be a part of TrackTown USA’s content teams for the 2022 track and field season at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. Irungu and the TrackTown USA team will select a group of photographers to be paid for coverage of The Prefontaine Classic and USATF Outdoor Championships. Their photos will be utilized to assist with the live coverage of these events on TrackTown USA platforms as well as tell stories of athletes competing on the track.

Starting today, established, and emerging photographers may apply on BlackWomenPhotographers.com, or submit their work via Instagram by posting their photography with the hashtag #BWPxTrackTown and reposting the competition flier. The deadline for submissions is May 3rd, 2022.

Creatives can apply at https://blackwomenphotographers.com/tracktown-usa

While this partnership is the first between the Black Women Photographers organization and TrackTown USA, Irungu’s connection with the Eugene-based nonprofit began in 2016 when she was an intern with the organization’s communications team.

“This is a historic partnership that will change the way other institutions think about who is behind the lens telling the stories of the athletes competing in such pivotal events of their careers. From being a TrackTown USA intern to now partnering with them to hire talented Black women sports photographers, this partnership is the definition of a full circle moment. My internship with TTUSA changed my life, and now I’m able to change lives with them.”

Jake Willard, the Brand Marketing and Engagement Manager for TrackTown, was also a part of the communications internship team in 2016 with Irungu. For him, this partnership feels especially meaningful. “I learned so much from Polly when we worked together at the IAAF World Indoor Championships and U.S. Olympic Team Trials in 2016. She has an impressive ability to tell stories and bring people together from all walks of life. Nowhere has that been more apparent than her success with Black Women Photographers. This partnership is a great step in the sport’s continuing efforts to empower the voices of Black women.”

About Black Women Photographers

Launched in July of 2020, Black Women Photographers (BWP) is a global community of over 1,000 active members from around the world. BWP aims to disrupt the notion that it is difficult to discover and commission Black creatives. Through honest dialogue via social conversations and workshops, the platform seeks to ensure that more Black women and non-binary photographers are empowered to make the industry as colorful as it ought to be.

Black Women Photographers is a home for Black women to receive proper recognition, and most importantly, get hired. Dedicated to providing a resource for the industry’s gatekeepers, it supports its members through promoting their work in an active database distributed to photo editors, directors, curators, and art buyers. The collective also offers free educational resources such as regular programing of webinars, workshops, trainings, and portfolio reviews.

Hayward Field to welcome spectators for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field

Hayward Field to welcome spectators for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field

 May 29, 2021

EUGENE, Ore. – TrackTown USA, the local organizing committee (LOC) for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field, today shared the exciting news that spectators will be able to watch the event in person at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. Recent changes to Oregon health regulations will enable fans to cheer from the stands of the newly reimagined stadium as the best athletes in the country pursue their Olympic dreams on June 18–27, 2021.

“Oregon health regulations regarding stadium capacity have shifted significantly in the last two weeks,” said Michael Reilly, CEO of TrackTown USA. “We are absolutely thrilled as these changes allow for previously impossible spectator numbers. Alongside our partners, we have developed a plan to maximize attendance while keeping participants and our community safe. We appreciate the hard work of public health officials and government leaders who have made today’s announcement possible.”

The policy shift is due to new guidance on outdoor gatherings for individuals who have been vaccinated for COVID-19. There will be both vaccinated and unvaccinated sections in the stadium, with vaccinated sections forming much of the ticket inventory. Ticket holders must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination in order to sit in a vaccinated section.

Key parameters of the new ticketing plan for the event are as follows:

  • All customers who retained their ticket orders through April 2021 will be able to keep their tickets if they so choose. Seating locations, however, are subject to change due to mandatory adaptations of the seat map in order to be compliant with health regulations.

  • Automatic refunds, based on the previous policy announced on April 22, had not yet been issued. Account holders wanting to secure refunds for all or part of their orders will still be able to do so.

  • Athlete families will have the opportunity to purchase up to four tickets per session on the day(s) that their athlete is competing.

  • After existing ticket customers and athlete families have been accommodated, any remaining ticket inventory will be sold to the public.

  • Only mobile tickets will be issued.

  • All plans for the 2020 Olympic Trials must be approved by the Oregon Health Authority and are therefore subject to change.

The LOC is finalizing the details necessary to facilitate this ticketing plan. More information will be available in the coming week. All event updates will be published on TrackTown20.com; those wishing to stay informed are encouraged to sign up for email updates here.

The U.S. Olympic Team Trials is a collaboration between the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and USA Track & Field (USATF). The event will be presented across NBC platforms.

Ticketing updates announced for 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field

Ticketing updates announced for 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field

April 22, 2021

EUGENE, Ore. – TrackTown USA, the local organizing committee (LOC) for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field, today announced ticketing updates as part of preparations to ensure event safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on state and local health regulations for stadium capacity and the high volume of tickets that already have been sold, the LOC has determined that the tickets held by existing customers cannot be fulfilled. As a result, all ticket customers will have their tickets refunded. A revised ticketing program with an updated seat inventory that is compliant with new regulations will be announced in May.

“Demand for tickets to the Olympic Trials continues to be at an all-time high and we are confident that some number of spectators will be able to attend the event if regulations allow. Unfortunately, we now know that we won’t be able to both comply with important public health regulations and fulfill the tickets that already have been sold,” said TrackTown USA CEO Michael Reilly. “We have considered numerous alternatives and have determined that taking this action now is in the best interest of our customers. By starting over with an updated seat map and policies that account for new regulations, we are providing the public with the opportunity to make purchasing decisions based on information that is very different from when tickets were originally on sale.”

Since the postponement of the Olympic Trials last spring, the LOC has been closely monitoring the evolving COVID-19 landscape with public health officials, USA Track & Field, and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. The State of Oregon recently changed its regulations to allow spectators at sporting events, but those regulations specify limitations on stadium capacity based on the county’s risk level. Additionally, social distancing will be required in the seating bowl. Those two components will significantly reduce the number of seats and limit the distribution of seats that will be available for the Olympic Trials. As a result, existing ticket purchases can’t be accommodated. Ticket customers will be contacted directly by the LOC with details of the refund policies and procedures.

We will continue to work with public health officials in the hope that the county risk level in June will allow for spectators. The revised ticketing program that will be announced in May will focus on creating opportunities for as many people as possible to attend at least one session of the Olympic Trials, with the following key principles:

  • Athlete families will have the opportunity to purchase tickets before the general public.

  • The next level of priority will go to ticket customers who retained their tickets until this point.

  • Tickets will be sold only for individual days of competition and customers will be limited in the

number of seats and the number of days that can be purchased.

Event updates will be published on TrackTown20.com as they become available. Those wishing to stay informed on the 2020 Olympic Trials are encouraged to sign up for email updates here.

The U.S. Olympic Team Trials is a collaboration between the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and USA Track & Field (USATF). TrackTown USA serves as the LOC for the event, which is scheduled to take place June 18–27, 2021 at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. The event will be presented across NBC platforms.
